ENDORSED QUALIFICATION AT LEVEL 4
According to the UK mental health charity “Mind”, approximately 25% of us (1 out of every 4 people) experience mental health issues each year. Although this number has not changed significantly in recent years, worries related to money, job security and loss of benefits can make it harder for people to cope.
This excellent course will give you a strong insight into the common causes and manifestations of mental health issues. As mentioned in the Summary, it’s very likely that you will know or be caring for someone with a mental health concern.
If you want to work in the mental health sector, it is a first-class primer, and is also useful for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) if you’re involved in a related field or sector.
The statistics for mental health problems make for sobering reading. The following is reproduced from the Mind website (www.mind.org.uk):
Every seven years a survey is done in England to measure the number of people who have different types of mental health problem each year. It was last published in 2009 and reported these figures:
- Depression 6 in 100 people
- Anxiety 7 in 100 people
- Mixed anxiety and depression 7 in 100 people
- Phobias 6 in 100 people
- OCD 3 in 100 people
- Panic disorder 2 in 100 people
- Post traumatic stress disorder 0 in 100 people
- Eating disorders 6 in 100 people
The survey also reveals that 17 in 100 people have suicidal thoughts during their lifetime, and 3 in 100 consider self harm.
Studying this course can make a massive difference to your own life, and to that of others. Knowledge is power; this course can potentially give you both.
