Are you passionate about childcare? Do you want to make a difference in young peoples’ lives? Whether you’re completely new to the field or hoping to add to your existing skill set, this course prepares students from a variety of backgrounds for any work involving children from ‘the middle years’.
The middle years is defined as the age period between 6 and 12. At this stage in their development, children are highly vulnerable and already susceptible to many of the pressures of modern society. Peer pressure, bullying and cultural expectations are all common struggles experienced by the youth of today.
This new and innovative course seeks to shed further understanding on the needs and wellbeing of this important age group. It has been specifically designed to provide both professionals and carers at all levels with the skills and knowledge they need to help children in their care.
COURSE OVERVIEW
The course is divided into a number of ‘Learning Outcomes’, each of which addresses important issues in relation to the understanding and development of children in ‘the middle years.’ These can be accessed via the ‘Snapshot’ tab above.
The way in which the course is constructed along with the nature of the content makes it an excellent option for both professional and non-professional purposes. It is an ideal choice for a range of professions including Teaching Assistants, Child Support Workers, Childminders, Playgroup Workers and Social Care Workers. It is also extremely beneficial for parents who want to advance their parenting skills.
Between the ages of 6 and 12, a child’s world expands outward from the family. New relationships are formed with friends, teachers and childminders, all influencing their personality and behaviour. At this stage in their lives, these young people will require a completely different approach in order to effectively support them. They will be experiencing a new set of emotions and their needs will have dramatically changed. Communication will be key in relating to children of this age as they begin to develop aspirations and face new challenges.
This course takes into account all of the above factors. It is designed to support you support these young children through, what for many is perhaps the toughest period in their lives.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
The Understanding the Middle Years Course has no entry requirements, other than personal motivation and a genuine interest in the subject matter. If you have a reasonable standard of education you should be fully able to meet the academic demands of the course.
